How to Survive

Surviving FIXATION is not a puzzle box with one code. It is a 1 vs All pressure test. The hunter has the knife, the smile, and the doorway. You have teammates, a house full of bad hiding spots, and whatever voice chat you bothered to turn on. This page is the victim-side manual. Pair it with the survivor tier and the walkthrough.

The only resources that matter

You have three resources: time, space, and information. Time is the round clock. Space is an exit that is not the hunter. Information is a call that still works after you die. Spend them in that order. Players who spend all three on a funny crouch in a closet go down first.

Spacing beats hiding

The official chase art is a close-range knife threat. If two survivors occupy the same tile, one lunge becomes two downs. Stay far enough that a single sprint cannot collect you both, close enough that a call still makes sense. A pair in adjacent rooms is S-tier. A blob in one lamp room is a highlight reel for the hunter.

When you hide, hide to reset, not to live there. Check a wardrobe, wait until footsteps pass, leave. The Fixation player looks in the first furniture they see because everyone uses it. Second hide, different room. Third hide, leave the wing. Static hiding is how C-tier on the survivor tier is born.

Calls that fit in a panic

You do not need a radio voice. You need a direction:

  • “Doorway, center”
  • “Hall left, sprinting”
  • “She’s on me, go opposite”

If you have no mic, type one word and a direction, then close the keyboard. Standing still to write a paragraph is a down. Console players should bind a chat macro only if they can open it without losing the camera. See controls.

False calls are worse than silence. If you are not sure, say you are not sure. Sending the whole team to the wrong wing is how a hunter farms a stack.

When to leave a room

Leave when:

  • You hear sprint on wood and you cannot see the hunter yet
  • A teammate went down in your doorway
  • You have been in the same furniture for more than a few seconds
  • The hunter has line of sight and you still have a second exit

Stay when:

  • The hunter is committed to someone else and you have an objective to finish
  • You are the only eyes on a wing and you can still leave
  • A teammate is coming to you and you can trade space, not bodies

Objectives are not published as a named list yet. Treat any interactable as optional if the hunter is in the room. A completed task on a corpse is worth nothing.

Using the house against the hunter

Lamp rooms are easy to read and easy to die in. Dark corners hide you and hide the knife. The screenshot doorway is a silhouette trap: the hunter standing there sees you before you see the red outfit. Do not peek that threshold at full sprint. Shoulder-check, then decide.

Windows tell you which side of the house is lit. Use them as information, not as an escape fantasy unless the experience actually lets you leave through them. Assume they are scenery until a patch note says otherwise. Check updates.

After you go down

Talk. The round is not over for the people who can still run. Name the last room. Name the hunter’s facing. Then spectate like a coach, not like a critic. If your stack is using the co-op guide, this is the moment it pays off.

Do not rage-queue into a script. That is how you turn a learning death into an account problem. Script safety exists for a reason.

Practice loop

Play two survivor rounds with the only goal of landing one good call. Play one hunter round so you know what the other side sees — how to play as the Fixation. Then come back to survivor and you will notice the closet you loved is the first place you checked as hunter. That is the whole skill.

Live long enough to be boring. Boring is how you beat a wish.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Should I hide the whole round?

No. Hide to reset, then move. Static hiding is how the hunter clears a wing.

What if I have no microphone?

Short typed calls still help. Pair with someone who can talk using the co-op guide.

Is running always wrong?

Sprint to break line of sight. Walk when you are unseen. Wood floors advertise panic.

Where should I learn the layout?

The walkthrough and a few deaths you actually pay attention to.
